Fashion Week for the Economista

It's that time of year again. Saint Louis fashion week is on the horizon and you can feel the excitement stirring around the city. Invitations for kick off parties are already being sent out, fashionistas are making their final outfit selections and runways are being prepped to host fashion designs from world renowned designer Rebecca Minkoff and Project Runway's Victor Luna. If that weren't enough excitement, I've been asked to host one of the pre-show parties for fashion week! Yay! While I'm super excited, my husband and I are also super pregnant. Six months to be exact and the only thing I can think of is..... What am I going to wear? Pregnant or not you may have this same burning question and this blog post is dedicated to affordable and fashionable fashion week looks.

Looking great doesn't have to cost a fortune. There are so many options out there such as; discount department stores, shopping online, or even shopping your own closet.  If you’re like me sometimes I forget what’s actually inside my closet.  Every couple of months I have the urge to get it organized and in the process I find great pieces that I’ve completely forgotten about.  Maybe I bought it off season or didn’t have anything to go with it at the time, but it always feels great when I find something that works perfect.  I call it “the treasure hunt.”

If shopping your closet doesn’t work for you, there are many stores dedicated to chic affordable fashion! Stores like T. J. Max, Marshalls, Ross Dress For Less, H&M, and Old Navy have won the hearts of conscientious shoppers. They offer the hottest fashion at an unbelievable price.  Just the other day I found some amazing name brand items for a steal.

Lastly, if you don’t have time or feel like going into a store, shopping online has become one my new favorite pastimes and with the convenience of smartphones, tablets, and laptops, you can find your favorite look anywhere.  My personal favorite is on the couch with a cup of coffee.  A lot of times your favorite department store has a sale online, but not in the store. So, shopping online can be just as rewarding as sifting through the sales rack to get that perfect deal.  It’s less work.  Below are two outfits examples that I put together from one of my favorite discount retailers H&M.

For a lot of you all i'm sure many of you are returning back to work from vacation or back to school. The great people over at Ice Mountain Sparkling water asked me....How do you add a little fun to your weekly routine? Here are my top 5 Ways to add a little fun and excitement into my week and just plain feel good! How about you? What do you do?

1. Exercise

2. Date night even if its with yourself....go get your nails done!

3. Shop!!! even if it's your own closet. I can't tell you the number of times I got through my closet and find things that I've forgotten about. It's always such a fun surprise!

4. KUMBAYAH Stop and smell the roses. A lot of times we become so busy that we forget to slow down and really enjoy life.

This DIY facial scrub is AMAZZZZZIN'!!!!

So, I get a lot of questions about how I keep my skin smooth and part of it is the Lord and my parents had really good complexions, but as I get older I really have to start taking care of my skin, so I will love it when it starts to wrinkle lol.  I came across this three ingredient scrub that's simply amazing.  It's all natural and works on pretty much any  part of your body.  It will leave you feeling as smooth as a baby's bottom.  I even use it on my feet!  All you need are three ingredients to create this yummy scrub.  Mix 1 banana, honey and brown sugar in a bowl and use your fingers to gently scrub on face.  Let it sit for a few minutes....or until your favorite TV show is over and wash off.   You will love how your skin feels!!   Since one batch makes a lot. You can have a girls pamper party and share it or you can do what I do and put it in a mason jar and stick it in the fridge. It will keep for 1 week. So I want to hear from you! What are your beauty regimens? Do you have a scrub that you can share with me?? Let me know how you like this scrub!

I can see your halo, halo, halo.... a DIY story

So I've been seeing the flower halo trend and I'm so in love, but instead of paying $20-30 dollars for one, I thought I'd DIY it and I really like the way it turned out! It's literally the easiest thing ever!

Tools:
1. Flower Garland (from hobby lobby) they have a really beautiful assortment and they were all 50% off this weekend. Choose the one that suits your style the best. They come in about 1yard of length so you will have some left over. I decided to make 2 for my god-daughters <3 br=""> 2. Scissors or jewelry pliers
3. Floral tape or a twist tie that comes from a loaf of bread;)... I didn't have floral tape so that's what I used and it worked great!!

Easy as 1 2 3
1. Measure garland to the length around your head that you want and add an extra inch.
2. Cut garland
3. Put the two ends together and wraps with either floral tape or a twisty tie:).... And you're done!!!

Gungor Swag (The music, The fashion, The movement)

Kenny and I had the pleasure of seeing one of our favorite bands of all time twice in one month.  This band is called Gungor.  They label their music as liturgical post rock, and even if you don't know what that means, it in no way hinders connecting to their music. What I find most amaze about them is that everything they do is very intentional and interesting.  It's very rare to find a band where the musicality and the lyrics can stand alone independent of one another but when combined create a most beautiful compliment. Not only is their music thought provoking, spiritual and quirky, but their style is on point as well and you can almost feel the music through their fits (outfits).  From the Cellist  to the bass player, the drummer, and Michael and Lisa, the leaders they are the complete package.

Drummer, Terence Garfield a.k.a.  our bro!! We love you!
Michael and Lisa Gungor, and their beautiful daughter and Terence Garfield. I am a huge fan of Lisa's laced dress and colored tights and the fellas look pretty dapper.  I'm totally feeling Michael's Top hat and Terrence's handkerchief, two great statement pieces.
Me and Kenny with Gungor

This song really means a lot to me and Kenny.  I'm sure you will dig it as well!

Another one that we love!!

Rock Em Wedges

So I got a chance to rock my new "Rock EM" wedges from www.dibashoes.com. I have to say that when I first saw them, I didn't recognize the complex beauty that they held..but when I put them on all I could say was OMG!!! I totally love them.  The white straps are a very crisp white color and the texture in the basket woven heal is just dynamic! These shoes are super comfortable paired nicely with my hippie jeans from Urban Outfitters, my bold yellow button down from Forever 21, and my bag that I got in Brazil.  I topped of the look with shades from Mark Anthony Collection in the St Louis Mills and my Bo, Mr. Kenneth DeShields..mmm...mmm..good!:)
